Iván Cepeda faces election annulment lawsuit and criminal complaint

Colombian Senator Iván Cepeda is facing multiple legal challenges regarding his political standing and election validity.

A lawsuit has been filed with the Council of State seeking to annul the elections of Senator Iván Cepeda and Representative Aida Quilcué. The 111-page petition alleges that voter freedom was compromised in certain regions during the elections, citing potential violence and coercion. The lawsuit points to unusual voting patterns and significant increases in vote counts between the first and second rounds in areas such as Chocó, Nariño, Cauca, and Valle del Cauca.

Separately, Iván Cepeda announced he is taking conservative leader Efraín Cepeda to the Prosecutor's Office. This follows statements by Efraín Cepeda that linked Iván Cepeda to illegal armed groups and claimed he was “more guerrillero than Gustavo Petro.” Iván Cepeda characterized these accusations as “calumnious and mendacious,” stating they pose a threat to his personal security and could incite violence against him.
