Ivo Vel Kos charged with assault and threats against wife in São Paulo
Ivo Vel Kos, a 48-year-old businessman and co-founder of the securitization firm Virgo, has been formally charged with bodily injury and threats following an incident of domestic violence in São Paulo. The charges follow an attack on his wife, 27-year-old dentist Giulia Falcão, which occurred on August 14 while the couple was returning from a dinner in the Pinheiros district.
According to the Public Ministry of São Paulo, the assault began inside a vehicle, where Kos allegedly punched Falcão in the face and body. The violence continued at their residence, where Falcão reported being struck with a baseball bat and threatened with an electric shock device. The victim also stated that Kos seized her mobile phone to prevent her from calling for help and issued death threats if she attempted to leave the house.
Medical reports confirmed injuries including edema and bruising to the face, eyes, and nose, as well as a wound on her right hand. While the current charges are for bodily injury and threats, Falcão’s legal counsel is seeking to reclassify the crime as attempted feminicide, citing evidence of intent to kill.
A São Paulo court has denied Kos's request for house arrest, maintaining his preventive detention. The court also issued urgent protective measures, prohibiting Kos from contacting Falcão or approaching her residence and workplace.
