Ivorian evangelical pastors threaten legal action against influencer Maa Bio
The Evangelical Mediation of Côte d’Ivoire and the Association of Pastors of Côte d’Ivoire have announced intentions to file legal complaints against social media influencer Maa Bio (also known as Kwame Yélène). The religious organizations claim her public statements and social media interventions have been offensive, disrespectful, and defamatory toward religious leaders.
Specifically, the pastors cited incidents involving disrespectful remarks directed at Pastor Wilfried Zahui during live broadcasts. The controversy stems from a broader dispute involving influencer Apoutchou National and Pastor Zahui regarding the display of luxury vehicles. While Maa Bio defended Apoutchou National, the evangelical associations argue that freedom of expression does not justify public humiliation, insults, or threats against religious figures.
The associations intend to submit video evidence and recorded statements to the public prosecutor to determine if the influencer's conduct constitutes criminal defamation or insult. Despite the legal tension, Pastor Wilfried Zahui has publicly stated he has forgiven Apoutchou National and seeks to de-escalate the situation.
