Ivorian film “Dalasien” spotlights youth crime, poverty and migration

The Ivorian drama “Dalasien” premiered on 30 July 2026 at the Majestic cinema in Abidjan. Written by Oumar Diakité and produced by Life Africa Production, the film follows two young men, Dalasien and Petit Kouakou, who turn to robbery and motorcycle assaults to fund an illegal journey to Europe. Their story illustrates the broader challenges facing Ivorian youth – high unemployment, poverty, the lure of criminal networks, and the dangers of irregular migration. After being pursued by police, the protagonists confront the harsh reality that shortcuts to success can lead to loss of self and severe legal consequences. The screening, attended by figures from cinema, culture and the arts, was praised for its realistic portrayal and its call for collective awareness of these social ills.
