Ivory Coast caps staple food prices, launches consumer hotline

The Ivorian government, through the Conseil national de lutte contre la vie chère (CNLVC) under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Handicrafts, announced price caps for essential food items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, tomato concentrate, pasta and bread. The caps, effective in Abidjan and a 30‑km radius, set specific maximum prices – for example, 875 FCFA per kilogram of white granulated sugar and 12 788 FCFA for a 22.5‑kg bag of rice with 5 % breakage.

On 30 July 2026 the CNLVC launched a national display campaign in Marcory, Abidjan, and introduced a free green hotline, 1343, for consumers to report any violations of the regulated prices. The measures aim to protect household purchasing power amid persistent cost‑of‑living increases and to curb speculative pricing practices.
