Six suspects presented in French anti‑terror probe over Sarcelles attack

Six men were presented before a Paris anti‑terrorism judge on Saturday and placed in pre‑trial detention. The case stems from a July 11 discovery of a vehicle parked in Sarcelles, north of Paris, containing a Kalashnikov‑type assault rifle, a Beretta pistol and magazines. The car was found near a cinema and about 500 metres from a local synagogue.

The National Anti‑Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) says the suspects are suspected of having taken part in the transport or delivery of the weapons. No evidence has yet been found linking them to a specific target, and investigators have not established a terrorist motive. The DGSI had earlier warned of a possible Islamist attack on the synagogue, prompting the vehicle search. A source quoted in the investigation noted, “À ce stade, on identifie simplement une bonne petite équipe impliquée dans le trafic d'armes et le vol de véhicules.” The president of the Sarcelles Jewish community stressed that, “Il n'existe, à ce stade, aucun élément permettant d'établir un lien direct avec la communauté juive.” The investigation continues to determine the intended purpose of the arms and any possible planners.
