Ivory Coast implements provisional price cuts on frozen fish

Following protests by female traders over rising costs, importers, wholesalers, and retailers in Ivory Coast have reached a provisional agreement to reduce the price of frozen fish. The measure includes a 2,500 FCFA reduction per 20 kg carton of mackerel and horse mackerel.

The agreement was reached in Abidjan under the supervision of the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Craft, Kalil Konaté. The minister attributed the recent price surges to increased hydrocarbon and transport costs, as well as the nation's heavy reliance on fish imports.

To ensure the price reduction reaches consumers, a monitoring commission will be established to track the distribution chain. Additionally, a new observatory for prices and margins will be created to examine operator costs and define appropriate commercial margins in collaboration with professionals and consumer associations.
