Ivory Coast Vice‑PM Opens Independence Village in Yopougon

On 2 August 2026, Vice‑Prime Minister and Defence Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara officially opened the Week of Independence in Yopougon, Côte d’Ivoire. The ceremony marked the inauguration of the new “Village de l’Indépendance” at Terminus 47, created to host the nation’s 66th independence celebrations on 7 August.

Deputy‑Mayor Adama Bictogo welcomed the event, highlighting its role as a space for meetings, discovery and national unity. The gathering included representatives from the PDCI‑RDA, RHDP, FPI and COJEP parties, underscoring a message of cohesion. A tribute was paid to the late General Justin Aly Dem, who died on 31 July, with a minute of silence observed.

The inauguration aims to provide residents and visitors a dedicated venue for festivities and to reinforce solidarity across the country’s diverse political, ethnic and religious communities.
