Ivry-sur-Seine tuberculosis case triggers contact tracing in France
Health authorities in France have launched an investigation to identify and screen contact cases following the discovery of tuberculosis in a person who attended an elementary school and a leisure center in Ivry-sur-Seine. The Agence régionale de Santé d’Ile-de-France reported on August 11 that two individuals have been identified with a ‘low-contagiousness’ form of the disease.
Nationally, tuberculosis incidence in France saw an 8% decrease in 2024 compared to 2023, with 4,491 reported cases. The Ile-de-France region remains one of the most affected areas, accounting for 36.4% of the country's cases in 2023. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates approximately 10 million new cases annually, with nearly 1.25 million deaths recorded in 2023.
