IWAI Chairman orders expedited development of Varanasi transport projects
Sushil Kumar Lohani, Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), has directed officials to accelerate development projects in Varanasi and surrounding districts. During a review meeting, Lohani emphasized the need for mutual coordination to ensure the timely completion of pending works.
The review covered several major infrastructure initiatives, including the Multi Modal Terminal Port, a Cruise Terminal at Front Ghat, a Centre of Excellence, and a Multi Modal Logistics Park. Discussions also addressed the Ramnagar to Jeevannathpur Railway Station rail connection road, land acquisition, and revenue record verification.
Lohani stated that strengthening the waterway-based transport system in the Purvanchal region requires effective multimodal connectivity, integrating rail, road, and water transport. The successful implementation of these projects is expected to boost local economic activity, logistics, and water tourism.
