Iwaki City Hospital Council hosts community forum on heart failure

The Iwaki City Hospital Council hosted a community forum titled ‘Emergency Medical Care/Iwaki 2026: About Heart Failure’ at the City General Health and Welfare Center. The event, held in conjunction with Emergency Medical Care Week, aimed to increase public understanding of heart failure.

According to 2024 vital statistics from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, heart disease (excluding hypertensive heart disease) is the second leading cause of death in Japan, following malignant neoplasms. During the forum, Dr. Hiroyuki Yamauchi of Yamauchi Clinic delivered a special lecture to approximately 180 citizens, covering the basics of heart failure and preventative measures.

Additionally, the Iwaki City Fire Department provided demonstrations and practical training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
