Iwan Setiawan appointed as new Pangkostrad

Lieutenant General Iwan Setiawan has been appointed as the new Commander of the Army Strategic Command (Pangkostrad), succeeding Lieutenant General Mohammad Fadjar. The appointment was confirmed by the Army Chief of Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak, at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta.

Setiawan is a high-ranking officer with extensive experience in the Special Forces Command (Kopassus). Notably, in 1997, while serving as a first lieutenant, he was part of a Kopassus-led expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest, an initiative led by then-Kopassus Commander Prabowo Subianto.

His career also includes serving as the Commander of the XII/Tanjungpura Regional Military Command, where he notably entered high-risk areas in Papua to engage with local groups.
