IWC Schaffhausen marks 50 years of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL

IWC Schaffhausen is releasing two limited-edition timepieces to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Ingenieur SL, a design originally created by Gérald Genta. The anniversary models include the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW328910) and the Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW324909).

The new editions draw inspiration from a rare version of the original 1976 Ingenieur SL. While the standard collection typically features a ‘grid’ dial structure, these anniversary models utilize a brushed, argenté-colored finish. This design choice honors a specific, scarce variant of the historical model that lacked the signature grid pattern.

Originally released between 1976 and 1983, only 598 pieces of the original Ingenieur SL were produced. Although it was not an immediate commercial success, the design has since become a highly sought-after historical model among collectors and established the aesthetic foundation for the modern Ingenieur collection.
