Iwonicz-Zdrój police investigate series of forest fires
A series of forest fires has occurred in the forests of Iwonicz-Zdrój over the course of less than a week. Firefighters from the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) Iwonicz-Zdrój intervened four times during this period, including incidents near Mount Przedziwna on August 28, Mount Borowinowa and the Excelsior Sanatorium on August 31, and near an old brewery on September 2.
The repetitive nature of these incidents has raised concerns that they may not be accidental. Local authorities, including Mayor Grzegorz Nieradka, have requested police involvement to investigate the circumstances and identify potential suspects.
Firefighters have warned that the dry forest floor poses a significant risk, as even small fires can quickly become uncontrollable, potentially threatening nearby residential buildings, sanatoriums, and guest houses if wind conditions worsen. Residents and tourists are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or signs of smoke and flames immediately.
