Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo has been selected to host the XVII National and Ibero-American Congress of Tourist Guides from September 21 to 25, 2026. The event, titled ‘Atrévete y Cámbiate el Chip’, aims to provide professional training and experience exchange for tourism workers from Mexico and across Ibero-America.

The congress will offer 40 hours of curricular training covering topics such as artificial intelligence applied to tourism services, emotional intelligence, and strategies to enhance visitor experiences. The initiative is supported by the federal Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) and the Guerrero state tourism authorities to strengthen the quality of services for the approximately 8,543 registered official guides in Mexico.

In addition to the congress announcement, officials noted that Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo saw a 6 percent increase in passenger arrivals between January and June 2026 compared to the previous year, totaling over 475,000 travelers. Connectivity to the region is expected to be reinforced during the winter season with direct flights from several North American cities, including Calgary, Vancouver, San Francisco, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Chicago, Montreal, and Toronto.
