Iyanla Vanzant to host OWN special on generational trauma

Iyanla Vanzant will host a new OWN special titled ‘Mothers & Daughters: Torn Apart’, premiering Friday, Oct. 9, at 9 p. m. ET/PT. The program focuses on healing fractured family relationships and addressing generational trauma by bringing together three generations of mothers and daughters.

Filmed before a live studio audience, the special follows Vanzant as she guides participants through difficult conversations intended to confront painful truths and break destructive cycles. The project specifically emphasizes the experiences of Black women, exploring emotional burdens carried across generations and the challenges of addressing unspoken family wounds to foster reconciliation.

A preview clip features Vanzant working with a mother, Patricia, and her daughter, Cha ‘Tania’, whose relationship has been strained by years of emotional distance and miscommunication.
