Izak Rankine emerges as top-ranked AFL player

Adelaide Crows player Izak Rankine has emerged as a top-ranked player in the AFL following a transformative season. A key turning point in his career was highlighted during a Round 19 match against Sydney at the SCG.

During the wet match, Rankine executed a significant tackle on Isaac Heeney late in the final quarter. Despite Heeney being 15 kilograms heavier, Rankine managed to spin him, causing a ball spill that allowed the Crows to clear the area and secure a victory.

Adelaide assistant coach Scott Burns described the performance as a “complete midfielder’s game,” noting that the tackle demonstrated Rankine's competitiveness and desire to win. The performance was characterized by 30 touches and high defensive impact, marking a shift in his role toward a more permanent midfield presence.
