Spain's cycling team faces mixed fortunes at Montreal World Championships

The Spanish national cycling team faces a challenging period at the World Championships in Montreal. The women's road team has suffered significant setbacks, including Sandra Alonso being unable to compete following a serious training accident that resulted in a fractured humerus, and Paula Blasi being forced to abandon the race after two separate crashes.

In the men's elite category, the team is looking to capitalize on an open field following the absence of Tadej Pogacar. Led by selector Alejandro Valverde, the Spanish squad features Juan Ayuso and Enric Mas as primary contenders for the title. The tactical approach focuses on supporting these leaders through a diverse group of domestiques to navigate the demanding 273.4-kilometer course.
