Izmir aims to host international rare disease and autism research center

Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, AK Party Izmir Deputy and Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on the Problems of Disabled Individuals, has announced plans to establish an international research center for rare diseases and autism in Izmir.

During a consultative meeting at Izmir City Hospital regarding health service scope and health tourism potential, Kasapoğlu emphasized that rare diseases and autism are matters of collective social responsibility rather than issues solely for medical professionals or families. He highlighted the importance of increasing accessibility standards across all sectors, including physical buildings, education, digital platforms, and technological tools.

Regarding autism, Kasapoğlu stressed the necessity of early detection, accurate diagnosis, and scientifically based education processes. He noted that Izmir’s existing health infrastructure, academic expertise, and specialized capacity provide a significant foundation for developing this international research and application hub.
