Turkey sets record for electric vehicle charging consumption

Turkey has reached a record high in electricity consumption for electric vehicle (EV) charging. According to data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), 89,947 megawatt-hours were consumed in July, representing a 97 percent increase compared to the same month last year and a 24 percent increase from June.

Approximately 3.33 million charging operations were performed during the month. While DC fast-charging stations make up only about 44 percent of the total 46,665 charging points in the country, they accounted for 84.94 percent of total electricity consumption and 79.08 percent of all charging transactions.

Sustainability trends are also rising, with 65 percent of charging operations conducted at green stations certified under the YEK-G scheme. Geographically, Istanbul led consumption with 23 percent of the total, followed by Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, and Antalya. Together, these five cities accounted for over 50 percent of the national total.

In addition to energy trends, various regions in Turkey are managing infrastructure and safety updates. Planned maintenance is causing scheduled power outages in several provinces, including Izmir, Bursa, Rize, Antalya, and Uşak. Meanwhile, in Kırıkkale, authorities have issued warnings regarding sudden water level rises in the Kızılırmak River due to hydroelectric turbine operations.
