İzmir municipality finishes major overhaul of Şirinyer Park
The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality completed a comprehensive renovation of Şirinyer Park in the Buca district. The 4,500 m² project removed illegal occupants, refreshed the landscaping and installed new infrastructure. Existing lighting was upgraded and three 6‑metre high lamp posts were added to improve safety. Twenty‑five new benches and nine modern waste bins were placed, and the damaged pathways and railings were repaired.
Greenery was significantly enhanced with an automated irrigation system, the planting of 76 new trees and 249 shrubs, and the laying of 3,000 m² of rolled turf. A former unused pool area was transformed into a landscaped island. Local officials and residents praised the changes; Bülent Aran, the muhtar of İnkilap neighbourhood, said, “Citizens could not enter before, now they thank us,” while longtime resident Havva Beyhan described the park as “like a botanical garden.” The upgraded park is now positioned as a safe, green, and accessible public space for the community.
