İzmir electrocution death case moves to appeals court

An appeals court has decided to obtain an additional expert report regarding the lawsuit involving the deaths of İnanç Öktemay and Özge Ceren Deniz. The two individuals died after being electrocuted in flooded streets in İzmir following heavy rainfall on July 12, 2024. Deniz, a medical student, was struck by electric current while trying to avoid the water, and Öktemay died while attempting to rescue her.

Following a previous ruling in the 10th High Criminal Court where various defendants received prison sentences ranging from 4 to 10 years, the case has moved to the appeals stage. The hearing has been postponed to November 20.
