İzmir Fire Department conducts defensive driving training
The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department is conducting specialized training for its newly appointed personnel to prepare them for fire and disaster response. A key focus of this program is the safe and rapid arrival of emergency vehicles at incident sites.
Twenty-five new fire drivers are participating in ‘Safe and Defensive Driving Training’ at the ESHOT General Directorate Driving Techniques Training Center. The practical curriculum includes braking on both dry and wet surfaces, maintaining following distances, navigating intersections, performing reverse maneuvers, and managing blind spots.
During the exercises, fire vehicles undergo braking tests at speeds of 30, 40, and 50 kilometers per hour to demonstrate stopping distances when encountering pedestrians or other vehicles. Drivers also practice escape maneuvers to handle insufficient following distances and unexpected traffic hazards. The training aims to equip drivers with the skills to manage risks such as slippery roads and sudden braking in real-world scenarios.
