Turkey launches ‘Ailem Güvende’ operation targeting crime and drug networks
Turkish authorities have launched a large-scale crackdown titled the ‘Ailem Güvende’ (My Family is Safe) operation, targeting organized crime, drug trafficking, and illicit social activities across 15 provinces. Coordinated by prosecutor offices in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Aydın, and Mersin, the operation has resulted in legal action against 162 suspects, 9 associations, and 13 businesses.
In a major drug bust at Mersin Port, officials seized approximately 350 kilograms of cocaine, valued at 1.5 billion lira, hidden in the hull of the vessel CSPC PISCES. Nine suspects were detained in connection with this seizure. Authorities also recovered professional diving equipment and underwater scooters used to facilitate the smuggling process.
Beyond narcotics, the operation targets prostitution, obscenity, and the exploitation of minors. Investigations are also examining the financial activities of certain associations. According to Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, MASAK has identified significant funding transfers from foreign public institutions and organizations to specific associations, the connection of which to the investigated activities is under scrutiny.
