Izmir Half Marathon celebrates city liberation anniversary

The 14th International September 9th Izmir Half Marathon was held to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the city's liberation. Recognized with a ‘Road Race Label’ by World Athletics, the event brought together over 3,000 athletes representing 14 different countries and 41 provinces within Turkey.

The race followed a 21.097-kilometer course starting and ending at Cumhuriyet Square. In the men's general classification, Sang Benard Cheruiyot from Kenya secured first place with a time of 1:06:13. In the women's category, Hasibe Demir from Turkey took the top spot with a time of 1:18:24.

The event included participants aged 16 and older, as well as elite athletes, and featured various community elements including families and participants using strollers.
