İzmir house fire kills grandmother and 4-year-old grandson
A fatal house fire in the Çiğli district of İzmir has claimed the lives of 56-year-old Rezan Korkmaz and her 4-year-old grandson, Yiğit Bulut Aydın. The fire broke out in a single-story detached house in the Şirintepe neighborhood. Reports indicate that Korkmaz attempted to save her grandson by re-entering the burning building after initially escaping with another grandchild. The young boy was reportedly preparing to celebrate his birthday on August 23.
In a separate incident in Çorum, 52-year-old Efkan Bahri Esgin was found dead in his apartment in the Ulukavak neighborhood. Neighbors alerted emergency services after noticing a strong, unpleasant odor emanating from the second-floor residence. Firefighters entered the apartment after the door could not be opened, discovering Esgin unresponsive. Authorities have launched investigations into both the İzmir fire and the death in Çorum to determine the exact causes.
