İzmir Metropolitan Municipality celebrates first year of second-hand markets

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s second-hand market initiative has completed its first year of operation. Originally started during Cemil Tugay’s tenure as Mayor of Karşıyaka, the program has expanded across the city to promote social solidarity and economic savings.

Currently, markets are held in four districts: Gaziemir on the first Monday of every month, Konak on the second Friday, Buca on the third Friday, and Karabağlar on the fourth Wednesday. The markets operate from 10:00 to 16:00. The initiative allows citizens to re-evaluate unused items, supporting both family budgets and sustainable living practices.

The municipality provides free stand services for participants, who can apply through the official bizvariz.izmir.bel.tr website. To support the community, municipal teams provide tea to visitors and conduct routine inspections to maintain order at the market stalls.
