İzmir Metropolitan Municipality releases 2025 sustainability report

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has released its 2025 GRI Corporate Sustainability Report, detailing its performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sectors. The report aims to monitor the city's progress against challenges such as the climate crisis, drought, and natural resource scarcity.

Key initiatives highlighted include 206 sustainability-focused projects and the development of an ‘İzmir Sustainability Map’ to integrate efforts across 30 districts. Additionally, the municipality has provided training to 1,820 individuals through its Sustainability Academy and utilizes a network of 333 ‘Green Collar’ staff to promote sustainable practices throughout the organization.

During the report's introduction, Deputy Mayor Dr. Zafer Levent Yıldır emphasized that sustainability must be integrated into all aspects of city management, including urban planning, rather than being treated as the responsibility of a single department.
