İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Supports Torbalı Dry Tomato Workers

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s Agricultural Services Department inspected the production cycle of the geographically‑protected Torbalı dry tomato, a key export product for the region. Teams led by department head Bülent Üngür visited the fields in Torbalı’s Pamukyazı neighbourhood, observed harvest and sun‑drying operations, and met directly with seasonal farm workers from the Southeast Anatolia region and other provinces. The officials offered refreshments, gathered feedback on working and living conditions, and discussed ways to increase the product’s added value while reducing input costs for growers.

The municipality’s effort aims to ensure that the Torbalı dry tomato, which is exported to more than 90 countries, receives the support needed to maintain quality standards, improve labor conditions, and secure its market position as a premium Turkish agricultural commodity.
