İzmir Municipality to review Balçova land zoning objections

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council is set to discuss numerous objections regarding the 1/25,000 scale Environmental Plan Change for the area known as "Balçova Arsaları" in the Çetin Emeç neighborhood. The dispute involves approximately 89 hectares of land and affects roughly 5,000 property owners who have faced zoning uncertainties for approximately 55 years.

The objections were filed during the public exhibition period of the new plans, which were prepared following the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's approval of the 1/100,000 scale Environmental Plan Change. A major point of contention involves the decision to convert approximately 66 hectares of land from green space to urban development areas, drawing criticism from environmental groups and property owners.

Individual parcel owners and representatives from organizations, such as the Temiz İzmir Association, have submitted formal objections. The municipality council will evaluate these files and move toward a decision following the upcoming meeting.
