İzmir service providers request 35% shuttle fee increase

Service providers in İzmir have requested a 35% increase in shuttle fees for both students and personnel ahead of the new academic year. The request, submitted by the İzmir Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (İESOB) and the İzmir Bus and Service Vehicle Tradesmen Chamber, cites rising costs for fuel, maintenance, insurance, and personnel.

The proposed rate increase is scheduled for discussion during the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council meeting on August 10. If approved, the 35% hike would significantly affect family budgets. For instance, monthly fees for a 0-3 km distance in public schools could rise from approximately 2,900 TL to 3,915 TL, while fees for private schools and kindergartens could increase to roughly 4,697 TL.

The new tariff, if passed, would apply uniformly across all districts in İzmir, with pricing determined primarily by the distance between the student's residence and the school. The proposal must first be referred to relevant commissions before receiving final approval from the Council.
