Izmir teen killed in gunfight over girl dispute

On 7 June 2026, a violent clash erupted in the Karabağlar district of İzmir, Turkey, after two factions argued over a girl. The confrontation turned into a gunfight in which a 15‑year‑old boy, identified as A. Ç., was shot in the face and later died in hospital.

Police investigations, supported by intelligence and homicide units, identified 13 participants, including several minors. Three unlicensed pistols were recovered. Five suspects were taken into custody; one was released by the prosecutor, seven were released under judicial supervision, and the remaining suspects—aged 16 to 27—were detained pending trial.
