Izmir to Open New Court Building and Judge’s Residence

Two new judicial facilities in the Turkish city of Izmir are close to being ready for use. The Halkapınar extra courthouse building and the Izmir Judge’s Residence (Hakimevi) were started in 2025 and are expected to be completed within the next two months. Construction and finishing work have been carried out largely by inmates from the Foça and Buca open‑prison complexes, who performed tasks such as maintenance, repairs and furnishing. The new buildings incorporate modern, environmentally‑friendly architecture, include 35 courtroom modules, provide easy access to trial halls and full accessibility for people with disabilities, and are designed with a citizen‑focused approach. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, along with Izmir Chief Prosecutor Ali Yeldan, Deputy Justice Minister Can Tuncay and other officials, will attend the opening ceremony at the start of the new judicial year.
