İzmir Municipality Launches Open‑Air Film Series at Historic Gas Factory

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s Yeniden Sinematek program is staging a summer open‑air cinema series at the historic Havagazı (gas) Factory. Screenings run on Monday evenings at 21:00, featuring a rotating selection of international and Turkish films such as the opening feature *Persepolis* (June 29) and the award‑winning drama *Gündüz Apollon Gece Athena* (July 13). Following each film, the organizers host talks with creators, including director Emine Yıldırım and animation lecturer Markus Berger. The schedule also includes the upcoming releases *Sırat* (July 6) and *The Christophers* (July 20), among others. The initiative blends film exhibition with cultural dialogue, aiming to enrich summer evenings for İzmir’s movie‑goers.

The program is part of the municipality’s broader effort to promote cultural activities beyond traditional venues, using the repurposed industrial site to attract diverse audiences and celebrate cinematic art.
