İzmir transportation projects discussed by Minister Uraloğlu and Mayor Tugay
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu met with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay to address the city's transportation challenges. The discussions focused on road, rail, and maritime projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving public transit.
Key initiatives include the İzmir Second Ring Road Project, for which design studies are reportedly complete and discussions regarding financing and construction methods are ongoing. Additionally, officials discussed the development of the 136-kilometer İZBAN suburban rail line, a joint project between the municipality and the Turkish State Railways (TCDD).
A notable proposal under consideration is the Konak-Karşıyaka tube crossing, which would involve an underwater rail system to connect the two sides of the İzmir Gulf. To facilitate these developments, the Ministry announced it will dispatch technical teams from the General Directorate of Highways, TCDD, and maritime authorities to İzmir within days to conduct field inspections and finalize technical requirements.
