İznik farmers protest steep nektarin price gap between farms and markets
Farmers in İznik, Bursa province, say they sell nektarin for 10‑15 TL per kilogram while the same fruit reaches supermarket shelves at around 100 TL. Producer Müjgan Öztürk warned that the disparity harms both growers and consumers and called for an investigation. Agricultural worker Remziye Renda added that intermediaries profit while growers receive little, urging citizens to buy directly from farms. Vedat Çakar, president of the İznik Agricultural Chamber, described the gap as “unacceptable” and said the chamber is discussing reforms with relevant authorities to create a market structure that fairly compensates producers and offers affordable prices to shoppers. The issue has drawn attention to the broader challenges faced by Turkish fruit growers amid rising production costs.
