Izquierda Unida denounces privatization and environmental risks in Spanish towns

Izquierda Unida (IU) has accused the Marbella municipal government of a concealed privatization of the Trapiche senior residence, alleging excessive cost overruns, a delay in opening until 2027, and the abandonment of a promised sugar‑cane museum. Party coordinator Toni Morillas described the plan as a “double deception” that places essential elder‑care services in private hands for profit, while the council imposes a scandalous surcharge on taxpayers.

In Antequera, IU opposes the continued operation of the Camping El Torcal next to the Nacimiento de la Villa spring, warning that the abandoned site threatens the town’s main aquifer. Councilor Pilar Ruiz argued that the location endangers water supplies for Antequera and surrounding municipalities and urged the authorities to relocate the campsite or convert the area into a climate‑refuge space for residents.
