İZSU initiates infrastructure maintenance and wastewater plant expansion in İzmir
The İzmir Water and Sewerage Administration (İZSU) has launched several infrastructure initiatives to prepare for the winter season and expand service capacity. In response to increased seasonal populations, maintenance and cleaning efforts are underway in Urla, Seferihisar, Çeşme, Karaburun, and Menderes Gümüldür to ensure effective rainwater drainage.
Specific efforts include stone reinforcement of the 2.5-kilometer Kocadere stream in Urla’s Kalabak neighborhood to prevent slope failures and ensure safe water flow to the sea. Additionally, İZSU has initiated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a capacity expansion project at the Havza Wastewater Treatment Plant in Menderes.
The expansion project, estimated to cost approximately 1.722 billion lira, aims to increase the facility's capacity from 21,600 cubic meters per day to 32,000 cubic meters per day. This facility currently serves 33 neighborhoods across Menderes, Buca, Gaziemir, and Torbalı.
