Iztapalapa recycling warehouse fire forces 100 evacuations

An intense fire broke out at a recycling warehouse located at the intersection of Benito Juárez and Herminio Chavarría streets in the Santa María Aztahuacan neighborhood, Iztapalapa borough, Mexico City. The flames reached several meters in height, creating a massive column of smoke visible from kilometers away.

Emergency services, including the Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos de la CDMX and tactical operational personnel, responded to the scene. To ensure public safety, authorities cordoned off the area and conducted a preventive evacuation of 100 people. No injuries were reported.

The firefighting operation involved water tankers from the Iztapalapa and Tláhuac boroughs, with the Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Agua (SEGIAGUA) deploying specialized equipment to ensure a continuous water supply. Authorities are currently inspecting nearby buildings for structural damage and monitoring the site to prevent any reactivation of the fire.
