J. A. Bayona announces Netflix documentary series on Flight 571 survivors

J. A. Bayona and Carlos Torres have announced a new three-episode documentary series titled ‘Más allá de la sociedad’, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 18, 2026. The series will have its global premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.

Serving as a follow-up to the film ‘La sociedad de la nieve’, the documentary explores the aftermath of the Flight 571 Andes flight disaster. It focuses on the survivors' return home, their reunions with the families of those who perished, and the long-term emotional and social impact of the tragedy.

The production features testimonies from survivors, the families of victims, authors Piers Paul Read and Pablo Vierci, and filmmakers including Frank Marshall and Bayona himself. The project is directed by Carlos Torres and produced by Bayona, Sandra Hermida, and Belén Atienza.
