Jü Ce-ti breaks long-standing swimming record at Asian Games

Thirteen-year-old Chinese swimmer Jü Ce-ti has achieved significant milestones at the Asian Games in Tokyo. In the 200-meter individual medley, she recorded a time of 2:06.10, surpassing the long-standing 2015 world record held by Hungarian Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú (2:06.12). While Summer McIntosh remains the all-time leader with a 2:05.70, Jü's performance marks the second-fastest time in history for the event and sets a new junior world record.

Additionally, Jü demonstrated dominance in the 200-meter butterfly, winning gold with a time of 2:05.08. This performance established a new Asian Games record, beating her teammate Zhang Mo-han by nearly four body lengths. Following her success at the 2025 Singapore World Championships, where she became the youngest swimmer to reach an A-final and win a medal, she is now considered a major prospect for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
