J. D. Vance proposes stay-at-home parent subsidies and campaigns in North Carolina

Vice President J. D. Vance has proposed a new policy to provide $9,000 annually to married couples where one parent remains at home to care for children. The plan involves diverting resources from the federal Child Care and Development Fund, a program that currently supports nearly 900,000 families. Critics note that approximately 80 percent of the families currently utilizing this fund are single-parent households, and the majority of children served use childcare centers rather than staying at home.

In a separate political event, Vance traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina, to campaign for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley. The rally, held at the Koury Convention Center, drew an estimated 300 attendees in a venue capable of holding 3,000. Visuals from the event showed some attendees using mobile devices or appearing to sleep during the speech, while Fox News cut its live coverage eight minutes into Vance’s 30-minute address.
