J. E. Hubert to close oldest Slovakian sparkling wine factory

J. E. Hubert, Slovakia’s oldest sparkling wine producer, has announced the closure of its manufacturing plant in Sereď. The company will cease domestic production by the end of this year.

Following a strategic analysis to maintain regional competitiveness, the Bohemia Sekt group will transfer production to its Czech facilities in Stary Plzenec and Mikulov. The company will maintain only its sales and marketing departments within Slovakia. The decision follows years of failing to meet production capacity goals despite high investments.

The closure will affect approximately 60 employees, though the company stated it will offer some staff positions at other group facilities. Financial reports from last year showed the company generated 29.8 million euros in revenue with a profit of 1.79 million euros, representing a 53 percent decrease in profit and a 3 percent decrease in revenue compared to the previous year.

Founded in 1825 in Bratislava, the brand has a long history, with production moving from Bratislava to Sereď in 1952.
