J. J. McCarthy activated by New York Giants following trade

Quarterback J. J. McCarthy has been activated for the New York Giants' Week 4 game against the Arizona Cardinals following his trade from the Minnesota Vikings. McCarthy, who was acquired for a fifth-round pick, described the trade as a “shock” but expressed readiness to embrace the opportunity in New York.

McCarthy has been working closely with the coaching staff to learn the offense. Giants head coach John Harbaugh noted McCarthy's dedication to immersing himself in the playbook. While McCarthy is active on the roster, his specific role remains unconfirmed; he could serve as a backup or participate in specific situational packages.

The Giants' quarterback situation follows the season-ending injury to Jaxson Dart. Jameis Winston currently serves as the starter, with Jake Haener recently elevated from the practice squad. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy indicated that the team will evaluate McCarthy's progress daily to determine his depth chart position.
