J. J. Spaun withdraws from Tour Championship with shoulder injury

J. J. Spaun, the 2025 U. S. Open champion, has withdrawn from the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club due to a shoulder injury. Spaun exited the tournament during the opening round after completing only five holes, where he was 4-over par.

The injury, described by Spaun as feeling ‘like a knife’ in his right shoulder blade, reportedly began on Tuesday morning. Despite attempts to manage the pain with a physiotherapist, the injury restricted his movement and made the torque required for a golf swing uncomfortable.

Spaun’s early departure ends his pursuit of the FedExCup title. His playing partner during the first round, Min Woo Lee, continued play and moved to the top of the leaderboard.
