J. K. Rowling reaffirms stance on gender issues in new essay
Author J. K. Rowling has released a new essay reaffirming her long-standing positions regarding transgender activism and women’s rights. Writing six years after her controversial 2020 essay, Rowling stated that while her fundamental views have not changed, her involvement has evolved from public commentary to practical support for women’s organizations and legal cases.
Rowling characterized certain forms of modern transgender activism as “elitist to its core,” arguing that such movements can conflict with the protections of female-only spaces and sex-based rights. She defended her position by stating that her advocacy focuses on women’s safety and privacy rather than being “anti-trans.”
The author noted that she has faced an “avalanche of death, rape and torture threats” due to her public statements. Despite the hostility, she clarified that transgender individuals should not face discrimination in employment or housing and must be protected from threats to their personal safety.
