J. R. Gray wins NHRA U. S. Nationals Pro Mod title
J. R. Gray, the reigning world champion in the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, won the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U. S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Gray secured the victory with a run of 5.701 seconds at 252.47 mph in his Al-Anabi Performance Chevrolet Camaro, defeating Justin Bond, who clocked 5.759 seconds at 251.72 mph.
Following the event, Justin Bond has moved into the points lead for the Pro Mod Road to the Championship, holding a seven-point advantage over Michael Stavrinos. The series is scheduled to return to action on September 25-27 at Rockingham Dragway.
In separate news from the event, Jason Collins had his qualifying runs disallowed at the U. S. Nationals due to a blower infraction identified by the technical department. Team owner Scott Tidwell noted that officials claimed the blower was not exactly as it was built and shipped, which allegedly voided the part number and SFI rating.
