J. Smith-Cameron has been cast in a recurring role for the 28th season of ‘Law & Order: SVU’. She will portray Gwen Sharpe, a jury consultant, beginning with the season premiere on Thursday, October 8.

Showrunner Michele Fazekas described the character as a peer for Captain Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay. The role is intended to provide Benson with a professional confidante to discuss matters of disillusionment and leadership, as the character is unable to share certain frustrations with her subordinates.

The upcoming season is expected to explore how investigations into sexual assault have evolved—and remained stagnant—over the past 30 years of Benson’s career.
