Ja Morant traded to Portland Trail Blazers from Memphis Grizzlies

The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired two-time All-Star Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies. The trade involved Portland sending Jerami Grant, Kris Murray, and $1 million to Memphis without including any draft capital.

Morant, who was the 2019 Rookie of the Year and a 2022 Most Improved Player, expressed enthusiasm for the move following initial surprise at the news. He stated, “A new home. A new team. A new organization. I can show the Portland fans a different Ja. It is like starting over.”

The trade comes as Portland looks to build around the recent breakout of Deni Avdija. However, analysts have noted concerns regarding team fit, as the Blazers have struggled with three-point shooting and Morant will enter a crowded backcourt alongside players such as Scoot Henderson.
