JA Solar launches P-HJT modules for in-orbit validation

JA Solar has successfully launched its independently developed P-type heterojunction (P-HJT) modules into orbit. The modules, which entered their planned orbit on September 17, are undergoing their first in-orbit test to validate the technology for future large-scale commercial space applications.

The mission aims to assess the reliability and degradation of crystalline silicon technology within the harsh environment of low-Earth orbit, where the modules will face intense radiation, high-energy particles, and extreme temperature fluctuations. By comparing real-world orbital data with ground-based simulations, the company seeks to determine if these modules can serve as a more cost-competitive alternative to gallium arsenide for space energy systems.
